Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

Here's a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Sit down with your loved one and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. On the surface, it could look like conventional physical horror, but beneath Together lies a intense examination about how we choose to love one another.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for over ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the actors contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The story starts when the couple transition from the big city to the country for professional reasons. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the protagonists discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence takes hold of the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a slow burn fright fest, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes during something disturbing). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together seamlessly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and removed from his network of friends. He dreads the notion of totally forfeiting his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple grapple with the sort of issues that arise in most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They find humor with each other, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu at present.
